This remarkable fossil provides an insight into the origin of birds. It was found in stone of Upper Jurassic age. Feathers and wings are visible: it was named Archaeopteryx, which means "ancient feathers".

Many authors believe that Archaeopteryx evolved from fast running predatory dinosaurs like the Velociraptor, made famous in the film "Jurassic Park".
