Introduction to the Study of Dinosaurs

Anthony J. Martin

About the Author

Dr. Anthony (Tony) Martin is a full-time faculty member of the Department of Environmental Studies at Emory University. His B.S. degree is in geobiology and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are in geology.

His main research interests lie in ichnology, the study of plant and animal traces (such as tracks, trails, burrows, and coprolites), and how it can be applied to interpreting behavior.

His interests are in both modern and ancient ichnology, using a comparative approach that looks at how traces are made and get preserved in the fossil record, then testing how accurately these traces reflect the behavioral interactions of organisms with their environments.

He has presented results of his research at more than 30 professional meetings on a variety of topics in paleontology and geoscience education, and his field studies have taken him to 23 states in the U.S. and 9 foreign countries thus far.

Dr. Martin is a member of the Paleontology Society, Geological Society of America, National Center for Science Education, National Association of Geoscience Teachers, Sigma Xi scientific society, Georgia Geological Society, and Atlanta Geological Society.
