'It is clearly written and is ultimately packed full of invaluable advice for tomorrow's doctors.'

'This book contains everything you need to know about medicine, without the nonsense. It is easy to understand, highlights the really important bits, and leaves you feeling confident that you know what you're talking about.'

'Don't leave home without it - a sure-fire hit for virtually all of your medical science and general medical teaching. Few things at university will last you from Freshers' Week to Finals … but this book should!'

'It is hard to see how other medical textbooks will not be deficient compared to this one, with its numerous outstanding features - full colour photos and text, summary and "at a glance" boxes and coverage of all the medical sciences, clinical skills and clinical topics in a fully integrated fashion.'

'It's almost as if the most pertinent parts of the standard pre-clinical texts have been cut and pasted into a book written by doctors, for doctors-to-be. Medical students have had to wait a long time for this kind of book to come along.'

SHO, London

.. it contains the depth of knowledge and need for finals, and doesn't require you to look to other textbooks for extra help. Big and chunky, I reckon it could kick Kumar and Clark 's ass in a fight. And it's got a prettier cover as well.

There is definitely a practical aspect to information contained in the chapters which is often lacking from other medical reference texts.

‘This book has a real feel of being clinically orientated and certainly isn’t one that I would leave on the shelf gathering dust when I first started as a house officer.’

The structure of the book is excellent…It makes the book easier to use and should make it easier to revise from.

Medicine marks a truly new and original concept in the world of Medical publishing.
...the result is a marvellous and in depth study of medicine.
...a text that is remarkably easy to use, promoting the ability of the student to retain what he is learning. Axford and O'Callaghan have done a magnificent job in covering a broad range of material, writing in clear and vibrant prose - outlining data so as to facilitate deep understanding.
...as a textbook, Medicine is written for the way that the typical student approaches the classroom.

Electric Review (www.electricrev.net)

...the use of these various colour-coded boxes throughout the book is extremely good and means you can pick the level at which you decide to explore a topic...If you're looking for a book to cover the whole of General Medicine, then this book comes highly recommended.

I found myself being drawn many times to read the book for its wonderful learning material that has helped me develop my background knowledge. As such, I believe all medical students will benefit immensely from this book. A definite winner worth investing in.

I've been using Axford a lot for my revision and general reading. It's excellent. The diagrams are great, but the actual content and style of the text is even better.
