A mass extinction occured at the end of the Triassic. This was probably caused by traumatic environmental circumstances which imposed exceptional selective forces.

The late Triassic was marked by increased rainfall, and this may have caused a fall in sea levels. Some authors have speculated that these were the traumas responsible for this extinction event.
