The triassic began as a warm, wet period, covered in lush forest, and ended with the appearence of the first dinosaurs and the first true mammals.

These mammals probably evolved from a line of mammal-like reptiles called cynodonts. Fossils of these creatures show that their jaws are like those of mammals - cynodont actually means "dogs-teeth"
