Fossils and the history of life
The tutorial describes how fossils are formed, and how their age is estimated; it also includes a synoptic review of the history of life. The study of fossils - paleontology -is a large science, and its scope extends far beyond the theory of evolution. This chapter only introduces those parts of paleontology that are most important in evolutionary biology.
