Stalk-eyed flies

stalk_eye.jpg

These stalk-eyed flies (Cyrtodiopsis dalmanni) from Malaya have an eyespan that is longer than their body. There is an allometric relation between eyespan and body length, and Wilkinson has artificially selected the flies to alter the slope of the allometric relation.
