Objectives:

The study pointed out the health problems of a group of electricians who work at height, in 2 shifts, under low, medium and high voltage lines. The study group was made up of 120 male employees with ages between 28 and 52 years old.

Materials:

The subjects underwent the following set of tests: a clinical examination, a tonal laminar audiometric test, balance tests, EEG, glycemia dosage, eye tests, specific psychological testing. The questionnaires contained questions to identify the symptoms determined by the exposure to electromagnetic frequency, the osteo-muscular-joint overstrain, the working conditions and the personal pathology history.

Results:

The subjects tested worked in alternated shifts, in isolated power environment, in a sound environment appreciated as being noisy, in an unfavourable micro – climate, with a mixed lighting most of the time. The working rhythm was appreciated as being stressful by 83.78% of the employees.

Conclusions:

We noticed the existence of the pain syndrome (the neck, low back and bilateral knee joints) and an increased in the number of cases with cardio-vascular, eye, gastro-enterologic, dermatologic and psychiatric diseases. The causes of the medical conclusion for "unfit" to work at height were mainly due to age, high blood pressure, metabolic diseases, and eye problems.
