Lipid depots in various form acts both as energy depots and as endocrinological active systems. In clinical practice proxys of various lipid depots such as waist circumference is often used. It is however well known that to accurately quantify lipid depots imaging is the best method currently available. This presentation will discuss non-invasive imaging methods of adipose tissue depots, intraorgan lipid assessment as well as assessment of brown adipose tissue and how they can be used in experimental and clinical settings, both for basic research and for interventional studies in the field of obesity and diabetes.
