BPG4-0 DTD: symbol - element description

symbol

Used in bpg4-0entities.mod for character entity handling purposes.

Character entities in DTD 4 resolve to symbol elements. The content of the symbol element is a decimal character entity for the symbol. For example, the entity é which represents the character é resolves to the following:

abstractinfo -- bibliographic information given e.g. before or after an abstract

ac -- the accented character in an accent construction

accolade -- a brace spanning table rows

address -- an author's or other address

alternativeformat -- a text string in an alternative format (%formatting;)

am -- the accent mark in an accent construction

answer -- the answer in a question and answer section ('questiongroup')

b -- bold text (%formatting;)

bindinggroup -- BPS field

bookdetails -- book details

building -- part of address denoting a building

city -- part of address denoting a city

comment -- a comment inserted in a document for e.g. author or typesetter

contents -- the contents of a book (BPS) or a table of contents in a document e.g. of headings

copyright -- the copyright holder of content or an object

corporatename -- a company or group of people

correspondent -- the adddressee for correspondence about an article or document

country -- part of address denoting country

date -- a date

definition -- the definition of a term in a definitionpair

division -- information denoting which publishing division owns a document

documentid -- an ID for a document

edition -- the edition of either the content, a reference or book details (BPS)

entry -- an entry in a table row

etal -- text denoting 'et al.' or similar in a reference

event -- an event e.g. in a list of events

externallink -- a link out of a document

fax -- a fax number e.g. in an address

feedback -- feedback relating to an answer in an answergroup

font -- a change of font (%formatting;)

forenames -- a person's forenames (given names)

fullname -- the complete name of an author etc.

genesequence -- a string of text denoting a gene sequence

heading -- a heading in a document section

highlight -- highlighted text (%formatting;)

hint -- a hint associated with a question

i -- italic text (%formatting;)

imprint -- the publisher's imprint associated with a book (BPS)

inpress -- text denoting that a reference was 'in press' at the time of the article's publication

institution -- part of an address denoting an institution

issue -- the issue to which a reference or document belongs

keyword -- a keyword in a keyword group or index entry

layeredtext -- text in a legend associated with a particular image part

link -- a link to another part of a document e.g. to a figure, affiliation or heading ID value

miscellaneoustext -- text for which a more suitable tag isn't available in an author's details or a reference etc.

nametitle -- a title in a name ('Mrs', 'Sir', 'Dr', 'Professor' etc.)

newspaper -- a newspaper title in a reference

number -- text denoting the number of a reference, formula, figure legend, list, footnote, affiliation or similar labels (%formatting;)

office -- the office to which a document belongs

openface -- denotes text in an openface font (%formatting;)

overline -- denotes a line over text (%formatting;)

p -- a paragraph

page -- a page number

parameter -- a parameter associated with a file

pedigree -- an author's pedigree or lineage (e.g. 'Jr' or 'III')

price -- the price of something, usually a book

publisher -- the publisher of a document or referenced item

qualifications -- a person's qualifications (e.g. 'PhD')

question -- a question in a question group

rating -- a rating assigned to a document

readership -- details of the readership at which a document is aimed

roles -- an author's role (e.g. 'Chairman of ...')

roman -- text in a roman font (%formatting;)

room -- part of an address denoting a room

runninghead -- text printed at the top or foot of each page

sansserif -- text in a sans serif font (%formatting;)

scriptface -- text in a script font (%formatting;)

shortlegend -- a short version of a legend; often displayed in bold

simplemath -- math using simple non-MathML markup (subscript and superscript characters)

slanted -- text in a slanted font (%formatting;)

smallcapitals -- text in small capitals (%formatting;)

source -- the source of a quotation

span -- a span of text (%formatting;)

state -- part of an address denoting a US state

street -- part of an address denoting a street

strike -- strikethrough text (%formatting;)

sub -- subscript text (%formatting;)

subject -- the subject of a book, document or an entry in a subject index

sup -- superscript (%formatting;)

supplement -- text denoting that a document or reference belongs to a supplement

surname -- a person's surname (family name)

surnameprefix -- the prefix to a surname (e.g. 'von' in 'von Trapp')

tel -- a telephone number

term -- part of a definition pair

thesis -- text in a reference denoting a thesis

title -- the title of a document, book or journal etc.

tocheading -- a heading in a table of contents

trackinghistory -- dates associated with the production of a document

translated -- text denoting that a reference is to a translated version of an article

tt -- typewriter/monospaced font (%formatting;)

u -- underline (%formatting;)

uu -- double-underline (%formatting;)

volume -- a volume number

x -- punctuation or significant white space (%formatting;)

zip -- part of an address denoting a zip code
