A document or object related to the current document. There are two main uses of related:
- To identify inter-document links. For further information on linking in DTD 4 XML documents, see the special topic on Linking
- To identify what files are associated with an XML file. See relatedgroup for more information on this.

- externallink -- a link out of a document
- file -- an electronic file associated with a document (e.g. a graphic file)
- reference -- a reference cited in an article
- accolade -- a brace spanning table rows
- answer -- the answer in a question and answer section ('questiongroup')
- contents -- the contents of a book (BPS) or a table of contents in a document e.g. of headings
- definition -- the definition of a term in a definitionpair
- entry -- an entry in a table row
- feedback -- feedback relating to an answer in an answergroup
- heading -- a heading in a document section
- hint -- a hint associated with a question
- imprint -- the publisher's imprint associated with a book (BPS)
- keyword -- a keyword in a keyword group or index entry
- layeredtext -- text in a legend associated with a particular image part
- miscellaneoustext -- text for which a more suitable tag isn't available in an author's details or a reference etc.
- p -- a paragraph
- question -- a question in a question group
- relatedgroup -- all details of files or documents related to the current document
- span -- a span of text (%formatting;)
- term -- part of a definition pair
- title -- the title of a document, book or journal etc.
