alternativename

An alternative version of a name e.g. transliterated into a different language/character set.

For example, in the following list of author names, the Chinese forms of the names have been supplied as graphic files.

Given that the Chinese ideographs have been supplied as two separate graphics files ("ash101.fu1.gif" and "ash101.fu2.gif"), the namegroup above should be tagged in XML as follows.

pedigree -- an author's pedigree or lineage (e.g. 'Jr' or 'III')

qualifications -- a person's qualifications (e.g. 'PhD')

roles -- an author's role (e.g. 'Chairman of ...')

surname -- a person's surname (family name)

surnameprefix -- the prefix to a surname (e.g. 'von' in 'von Trapp')

x -- punctuation or significant white space (%formatting;)
