Transactions of the Philological Society continues the earlier Proceedings (1852-53), and is the oldest scholarly periodical devoted to the general study of language and languages that has an unbroken tradition. Transactions reflects a wide range of linguistic interest and contains articles on a diversity of topics: among those published in recent years have been papers on phonology, Romance linguistics, generative grammar, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, Indo-European philology and the history of English.

Fifth RH Robins Prize of the Philological Society
The fifth RH Robins Prize is awarded for an article written by a student associate member on a topic within the Society's interests. In a departure from previous Prizes, the Society will award the £500 first prize together with a £250 second prize. For further details Click here.
11 May 2007 - PhilSoc announces winner of the fourth R.H Robins Prize
At the PhilSoc AGM held on 11 May 2007, it was announced that Louise Mycock (Manchester) was the winner of the fourth RH Robins Prize for her essay entitled "Constituent question formation and focus: A new typological perspective". The essay has been published in Transactions issue 105.2.
