The Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness is a charity, established in 1999 to promote the development of the sociology of health and illness. Its sole asset is the journal Sociology of Health and Illness, published for the Foundation by Wiley-Blackwell. The Trustees of the Foundation use funds arising from SHI to meet the costs of editing the journal and to promote social scientific research, education and scholarship in the field of sociology of health and illness through a number of award schemes. At present these include funding for post-graduate studentships, post-doctoral fellowships, symposia/conferences and workshops, postgraduate student overseas travel and research initiation grants.
