Description of the dataset:
The data in "hall.dat" are of 123 US electric utility companies, and
were gathered in 1970. Various papers in the statistical and econometrics
literature have used these data since; cf. the reference in Section
4.3 of the paper. It is believed that the dataset was first used in
the paper by L.Christensen and W.Greene,
"Economies of Scale in US Electric Power Generation", Journal of Political
Economy, 84 (4), 655-676.
The log values of the two columns in "hall.dat" correspond to the x
and y coordinates, respectively, of the 123 data points of which Figure
3 depicts those within the range 0 <= x <= 5.
The dataset is published with kind permission of W.Greene.
