Modelling the effect of subject-specific covariates in
paired comparison studies with an application to university rankings,
by R. Dittrich, R.Hatzinger and W.Katzenbeisser
Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, Applied Statistics,
Volume 47 (1998), Part 4
A survey of 303 students was carried out to examine the student's preferences
of 6 universities, namely London, Paris, Milano, St.Gallen,Barcelona
and Stockholm. There are 23 variables in the data-set, where the first
15 digits in each row indicate the preferences of a student. For a given
comparison the reponses are coded by 1 if the first university was preferred,
by 2 if the second university was preferred, by 3 if no decision was
made and 4 if the response was missing. The next 8 digits in each row
represent the subject covariates STUD, ENG, FRA, SPA, ITA, WOR, DEG,
SEX. These are two-level factors with the abbreviations and codings
given below.
