Methodology
Soap film smoothing, by S. N. Wood, M. V. Bravington and S. L. Hedley, pages 931–955
* The code is provided as an R source package. See
http://cran.r-project.org for details of the format,
and packge installation instructions. It requires
R with package `mgcv'.
* The code was tested with R 2.7.0 and mgcv 1.4-1.
* The package code defaults to Multigrid solution of
the soap film basis defining PDEs. The paper used SOR,
which is still available as an option. The packaged
code is 5-10 time faster than we reported in section 5.3
of the paper.
* The default PDE solution tolerances are fairly sloppy.
We were much more paranoid for the paper, but it doesn't
seem to make any statistically important difference.
