Molecular evolution and neutral theory - What does the genetic evidence show?

dna2.jpg

The neutral controversy moved ground as genetic evidence became available.

The same relationships between functional constraint and evolutionary rate have been found, and the same explanations defended, for DNA as for proteins.

Two properties of DNA sequences are particularly interesting:

• The relation between silent and replacement changes.

• The evolutionary rate of pseudogenes.
