Biogeographical evidence

The biogeographical evidence suggests that at present some places are more dangerous than others for molluscs: the faunas of fresh-water habitats, for instance, show fewer signs of escalation than shallow marine ones, and within shallow marine environments, escalation is highest in the western Pacific and Indian Oceans, intermediate in the East Pacific, and lowest in the Atlantic.
