Stasis

"Stasis is not always present - that is the first thing to stress. Some species show stasis other ones do not.

However, when you find stasis - why is it there? That is a real problem. My opinion is that it is most likely due to the phenomenon known as stabilizing selection, whereby in certain environments there are limits to the amount of exploration which the morphology is allowed."
