This series of three lectures by theologian and bestseller author, Alister McGrath, introduces some of the key themes, figures, issues and debates in Christian theology. The lectures are written to accompany McGrath's Christian Theology 4th edition textbook, but will be of interest to anyone who wants an introduction to some of the key aspects of this field.

  • Lecture 1: (mp3, 18 minutes, 54 seconds)
In this lecture, Alister McGrath asks what theology is. He explores what God means to different people, the relationship of theology to faith, the vocabulary of the Christian tradition, and introduces the sources of Christian theology: the Bible, tradition, and reason.
  • Lecture 2: (mp3, 18 minutes, 16 seconds)
In this second lecture, Alister McGrath explores the nature of faith, what we might mean by belief, and the themes of trust when discussing and practicing faith. He demonstrates rationality of faiths; tackling the notion that faith lies beyond reason, but is not contrary to it.
  • Lecture 3: (mp3, 19 minutes, 14 seconds)
Alister McGrath explores a number of issues of doctrinal theology in his third lecture. He includes a discussion of the doctrine of incarnation - one of the most distinctive of Christine doctrines - the idea of the word made flesh, and the doctrine of two natures: divine and human.
