Impact Factor: 2.639

Insect Molecular Biology is the first international journal entirely for those applying molecular genetic techniques to the study of insects. The Journal publishes only high-quality original research articles on the structure, function, mapping, organization, expression and evolution of insect genes/genomes. It serves both the fundamental and applied aspects of insect molecular biology, and papers relating to the medical and agricultural sectors are welcome, as are those on the interaction of micro-organisms with their insect hosts.

Meetings and Conferences
The 11th Evolutionary Biology Meeting took place in September 2007 in Marseilles, France. This international meeting brings together scientists specialising in the field of Evolutionary Biology and has a transdisciplinary approach. For more information click here.

Special Issue: Honey Bee Genome
Insect Molecular Biology released its special issue 15(5) in October 2006, which comes as a result of a communal project, The Honey Bee Genome Sequencing Project (HBGSP), led by the United States Department of Agriculture and the National Human Genome Research Institute. The papers featured in this special issue provide new insights into varying topics in honey bee biology, including neurobiology, the process of caste determination, and the social lifestyle of the honey bee. These papers complement the Honey Bee Genome Sequence which the journal Nature has recently published; also a result of the HBGSP project.

Royal Entomological Society Journal Award Scheme
The Society operates a scheme designed to recognise the 'best papers' published over a two year period in each of its 6 journals.  Each year articles from 3 journals will be selected for this award by the Journal Editor(s) and the Journal Editorial board.  The prize consists of:

  • A cash sum of £300
  • A certificate signed by the President and Editor(s)
  • An award ceremony at the Annual General Meeting of the Society and dinner with the President.

The following paper was awarded the 2008 award for the best paper in Insect Molecular Biology:
A deficit of detoxification enzymes: pesticide sensitivity and environmental response in the honeybee
C. Claudianos, H. Ranson, R. M. Johnson, S. Biswas, M. A. Schuler, M. R. Berenbaum, R. Feyereisen and J. G. Oakeshott

The awards for 2007 were for Medical and Veterinary Entomology, Physiological Entomology and Systematic Entomology.  To find out more click here
