Ecological Entomology publishes top-quality original research on the ecology of terrestrial and aquatic insects and related invertebrate taxa. Our aim is to publish papers that will be of considerable interest to the wide community of ecologists.

In particular, we welcome submissions on:

  • Behavioural ecology
  • Biogeography
  • Community ecology
  • Dispersal and metapopulation ecology
  • Evolutionary ecology
  • Freshwater ecology
  • Herbivory
  • Host-parasitoid interactions
  • Invasive species
  • Population dynamics, especially of long-term field studies
  • Predator-prey interactions
  • Prey-pathogen interactions
  • Responses to climate change
  • Tritrophic (and higher order) interactions

Where the content of the paper falls outside of the remit of the journal, we may recommend that authors submit their papers to one of our sister journals. For example, papers in pest management that do not test broader ecological theories may be forwarded to Agricultural and Forest Entomology, if appropriate.

Reviews, critical appraisals, forum-type articles and short communications are welcomed.

Royal Entomological Society Journal Award Scheme
The Society operates a scheme designed to recognise the 'best papers' published over a two year period in each of its 6 journals.  Each year articles from 3 journals will be selected for this award by the Journal Editor(s) and the Journal Editorial board. The prize consists of:

  • A certificate signed by the President and Editor(s)
  • An award ceremony at the Annual General Meeting of the Society and dinner with the President.

The following paper was awarded the 2008 award for the best paper in Ecological Entomology:
Long-term effects of ungulates on phytophagous insects
José M. Gómez and Adela González-Megías

The awards for 2007 werefor Medical and Veterinary Entomology, Physiological Entomology and Systematic Entomology.

Obituary
We are very sad to hear that Professor Christine Mueller died recently. Christine had been involved with Ecological Entomology as an associate editor and her contributions were greatly valued. On behalf of the journal we would like to pass our deepest sympathies to her colleagues, students, friends and family. Please find an obituary from her colleague Bernhard Schmid following this link.
