Abstract
Introduction: The ADAMTS13 related markers were measured in the plasma of healthy volunteers and 40 patients with thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) to examine their usefulness in the diagnosis of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).
Methods: The ADAMTS13 activity was measured by FRETS-VWF73, and ADAMTS13 antigen and ADAMTS13-FXI complex were measured by ELISA kits (ADI).
Results: The plasma levels of the ADAMTS13 activity and antigen and ADAMTS13-FXI complex were significantly lower in patients with TTP than in healthy volunteers. The activity of ADAMTS13 was not well correlated to the antigen of ADAMTS13 and the activity/antigen ratio of ADAMTS13 was also significantly lower in patients with TTP than in healthy volunteers.
Conclusions: These findings suggest that ADAMTS13 related markers are useful for the diagnosis and analysis of TTP.
