Thromboembolic Disease and Its Relationship with ABO-Rh Blood-Groups and Other Variables in Patients at Warfarin Clinics in Iran Abstract number: P1746 Mehran K, Abdolreza A, Parvin A, Bahram Z, Mohammad Ali G
Introduction: Thromboembolic disease involve four serious problems including thrombotic cerebral attack and myocardial infarction, both are the most common cause of morbidity and mortality and disability in industrialized and developing countries. Pulmonary emboli, that quite often is associated by deep vein thrombosis, is also an acute cause of death. By the clinical and epidemiological investigations, most of the relevant causes of disease have been shown. Objective: Investigation the co-variates of thromboembolic disease, by emphasizing ABO blood group types. Methods: For this purpose, a group of 185 cases compared with a group of 185 controls. (Cases are matched with controls in respect to sex and age). The data were collected by interview with the patients and controls. The questionnaires were filled out by the investigator and then analyzed by conditional logistic regression. Result: According to this study, history of immobilization, predisposing disease, use of Oral Contraceptive Pill (OCP), history of hypertension and blood group type have statistically significant effect on thromboembolism occurrence. Other variables, such as: smoking, history of trauma, the present blood pressure, Rh-Antigen and Body Mass Index (BMI) had no statistically significant relationship with disease. Conclusion: By using the multivariate logistic regression, 4 variables including, history of hypertension, consumption of OCP, systemic and predisposing disease and blood group type A were considered the most effective co-variates of thromoembolism, with statistical significance.
