Papers that fall into one of the following categories will be considered for publication.

  • Original data from clinical investigations. Research from clinical investigations including outcomes research, therapeutic use studies, Phase IV and postmarketing studies, Phase III research including subanalyses and followup, as well as Phase II and Phase I studies and pharmacoeconomic data.
  • Review and discussion. IJCP Reviews (including meta-analyses) provide detailed, educational examination of the key evidence and knowledge-base from a particular area. The aim is to give the reader critical insight into and context for the clinical application of new and existing therapies, or into the clinical manifestations of a particular disease state. Please contact the Editor, Graham Jackson, MD or the Publisher, Chris Graf, ideally before you begin preparing your review article, to check whether IJCP already has something similar in the pipeline.
  • IJCP Drug Focus reviews. Guidance about the impact of a particular therapeutic agent in the clinic. IJCP Drug Focus reviews provide practical, contextualised and balanced guidance for clinicians, based on a discussion of the evidence available from clinical trials and a careful review of the clinical pharmacology. This series is not limited to new agents, but for new agents timing is critical: we time publication close to when new agents become available. Please contact the Editor, Graham Jackson, MD or the Publisher, Chris Graf, ideally before you begin preparing your Drug Focus article, to check whether IJCP already has something similar in the pipeline.
  • Consensus statements. Expert consensus as knowledge and understanding of particular disease states or therapeutic approaches develops.
  • Editorials, opinion pieces and letters. IJCP editorials and letters encourage discussion of provocative and opinion-driven matters.
  • Short reports. Short or preliminary communications of a highly clinical, topical, or time-sensitive nature for rapid publication and dissemination, including reportage from major international congresses and 'Clinical Message' papers. Lectures and book reviews will also be considered.
  • Supplements (described in detail in the 'Supplements' section of this site). IJCP supplements focus on advances in clinical medicine, highlighting evidence and delivering practical insight and objective analysis. IJCP supplements are generated from symposia held at major conferences, moderated roundtable discussions and chaired debates, workshops and working-group statements, and present themed collections of reviews and data analyses.

Peer review. A strictly independent peer-review process, where authors are blinded to reviewers but reviewers are not blinded to authors, is employed to evaluate each paper's suitability for publication in IJCP. For our peer review criteria Click Here. The peer review process is managed online. All research articles and review articles (including commissioned reviews) published in IJCP are peer reviewed following this process. When appropriate, the editors may follow a similar review process for editorials and letters.

For review and publication timelines please refer to the 'Author Guidelines' pages of this site.

Standards and ethics. IJCP encourages its contributors and reviewers to adopt the standards of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. IJCP will not consider papers that have been accepted for publication or published elsewhere. Our requirements for submission, including our conflicts of interest, disclosure, trial registration and ethics policies are described in detail on the 'Author Guidelines' pages of this site.
