Study of nasal carriage rate of Staphylococcus aureus in hospital personnel in Ilam, Iran Abstract number: r1994 Sadeghifard N., Azizi Jalilian F., Najafyyan N., Zaeimi Yazdi J., Seidkhani A.
Objectives:The aim of this study was to detect the nasal carriage rate of Staphylococcus aureus in Hospital personnel and determination of methicillin resistance. Methods:In a cross sectional study two hundred nasal swabs were collected, and cultured on blood agar and manitol salt agar for isolation of S. aureus. Carbohydrate fermentation tests, sensitivity to lysostaphin and novobiocin disks and also coagulase test were used to confirm the organism. Results:S. aureus was isolated from 76 (38%) of 200 samples. According to the results, there was no significant relationship between carriage rate and age and also carriage rate and sex (P > 0.05). Of 76 isolates of S. aureus, 28 isolates (36.8%) were resistant to methicillin. Conclusion:Our results showed that the high rate of nasal carriage of S. aureus among Hospital personnel and most of S. aureus isolates were resistant to methicillin. |
