Online Information


Nearly all Blackwell Publishing journals are available online as well as in the print edition. Subscribing to the online version of a journal offers many benefits to the librarian and reader, including the ability to search quickly across a whole range of research articles, gain instant access to the full-text of articles from journals subscribed to, and where available, linking between references and cited articles.

From July 2008 all Blackwell Publishing journals will be transferring to Wiley InterScience.  At this point Blackwell Synergy will cease to be available.  For more information about this transition please visit our information page: http://www.interscience.wiley.com/transition

Subscription Information for Institutions


We offer a range of purchasing options for online journals designed to meet the needs of libraries and library consortia. Access to these options is at the Premium level outlined below. For further information about these options, please visit our Librarian Site.

Following is a summary of the 3-tiered pricing structure for individual journal titles. Please see our Price List for details of some exceptions to this pricing model.

1) Premium Subscription - print with extended online access

PREMIUM access includes all of the advantages of the Blackwell Publishing Site License and is available via Blackwell Synergy.

PREMIUM access includes:

  • Access to PDF and HTML full-text articles from current content and all online back files to January 1st 1997;
  • Perpetual archival rights to paid-for content, where Blackwell has the rights to deliver this.
  • Access to OnlineEarly articles where available, ie. peer-reviewed articles published online before the print issue is completed;
  • IP and/or remote user access authentication;
  • Free electronic course pack use;
  • Inter-library loan (printed from electronic copy);
  • Walk-in users.           

2) Standard Subscription - print with standard online access

All institutions subscribing to Blackwell Publishing print journals are now entitled to STANDARD access to the online version through Blackwell Synergy. Standard subscriptions are priced at approximately 90% of the Premium subscription price.

STANDARD access includes:

  • Access to PDF and HTML full-text articles from the current volume and two previous year's volumes;
  • IP and/or remote user access authentication;
  • Customers wishing to activate this access must contact us directly at cs-journals@wiley.com and provide the following information.

    • Your name and email address
    • Your institution's name and addresses of all the main sites covered by your library 
    • List of the Blackwell journals you have a subscription to and you want access set up for

We will then send you activation instructions for accessing via Blackwell Synergy.

Institutions with Standard subscriptions to Blackwell Publishing journals are required to abide by the Terms and Conditions outlined in our 'Site License Agreement for Basic Access to Online Journals'. Please download this here.

3) Online Only Subscription

The majority of Blackwell Publishing journals that have an online version available can be bought at the discounted fee of approximately 85% of the Premium subscription price. Access is at the PREMIUM level through Blackwell Synergy. Institutions subscribing to Blackwell Publishing online only journals must sign the Blackwell Publishing Site License.

 

Information for Individuals Within an Institution

If you are within a subscribing institution, contact your librarian to find out how best to access Blackwell Publishing journals online. The librarian may also be able to give you a password for off-site access. Information for Personal Subscribers

Information for Society Members


If you are a member of an academic society or association you may have access to the online version of the society's journal as part of your member benefits. All qualifying members will be contacted by their society or directly by us with details. Service Providers


Electronic access to most Blackwell journals is available via third party service providers listed below. Your librarian will have information about the service provider(s) used in your institution. 

There is no additional charge to the publisher's subscription price. However, service providers may charge libraries for use of their service. 

Below is a list of service providers which hold Blackwell Publishing's electronic journals online. The librarian may also be able to give you a password for off-site access.
