Preparing Manuscripts for Submission

Text

For initial submissions, please review the Author Guidelines' page of the specific journal homepage using the link at the right.

  • For journals not using an Electronic Editorial Office system (e.g. Manuscript Central), the final hard copy version and the file on disk must be the same
  • Include all parts of the text of the paper in a single file. The ideal sequence is:
    • Header (title, short title, authors, addresses, correspondence details including e-mail address, abstract, keywords, etc.)
    • Body of article
    • Acknowledgements
    • References
    • Figure legends
    • Table legends and tables
    • Appendices
  • Take care not to use l (ell) for 1 (one), O (capital o) for 0 (zero) or ß (German esszett) for ß (beta)
  • Use a tab, not spaces, to separate data points in tables If you use a table editor, do not use carriage returns within cells

Unless specified otherwise in the journal instructions, the text should be sent in an MS Word-compatible format (not as a PDF).

Figures

Where possible, digital versions of your figures should also be sent, with each figure saved as a separate file in TIFF or EPS format. See our Electronic Artwork guidelines for full details.

Saving your files

For those journals not yet using Manuscript Central, we can accept the following:

  • PC or Mac formatted floppy disks
  • CD-ROMs
  • Zip disks

For some journals, files may be submitted by ftp; full details will be provided upon acceptance of your manuscript.
