ACUTE EXERCISE EFFECTS ON EXPERIMENTALLY INDUCED POSTPRANDIAL DYSMETABOLISM

Objectives: 

Metabolic syndrome is widely spread among industrialised countries. Obesity is one of the major health treathening factors among today people. Exercise is the most simple way to avoid it. Postprandial dysmetabolism refers to high serum levels of lipids and glucose over certain values. Dyslipidemia and diabetes are considered to be high cardio-vascular risk factors. The objective of the study was to observe the alterations in lipids and glucose homeostasis caused by acute exercise after a high fat/ high sugar meal.

Materials: 

The experiment was conducted on six groups (n=10) of male Wistar rats, 20030 grams. Two groups received standard meal (groups I, II), two groups (groups III, IV) received high fat meal (2 ml of lard), and two groups (groups V, VI) received high sugar meal (intraperitoneal injection of 2 ml glucose 33%). Groups II, IV, VI were subjected to acute, anaerobic exercise on the treadmill. HDL-Cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), and glucose(G) were determined from retro orbital sinus after fasting, after meal and after exercise at all groups.

Results: 

After exercise, the decrease of G in group II and VI, decrease of TG in group II and IV and increase of HDL in groups II and IV were observed (p<0,001). Correlations between exercise duration and G decrease, TG decrease and HDL increase were found both in standard and dysmetabolic food groups.

Conclusions: 

The results revealed changes in glucose and lipid levels in relation to exercise.
