Objectives:
To evaluate the effect of intake of non-alcoholic beer on nocturnal sleep in a population of university students under the stress of final exams.
Materials:
Involving 18 voluntary healthy university students (23±2.30 years; 9 women and 9 men), all carried actimeters (Actiwatch®) in their hand to record activity for 3 weeks. The first week was control week and the next two weeks they took a non-alcoholic beer (330ml) at dinner. All subjects followed the guidelines established sleep hygiene for the study. The dates were performed by the software Sleep Analysis®. The statistical test used was T-Student by the software (GraphPad Prism®).
Results:
We observed improved Sleep Latency (time period measured from going to bed until the onset of sleep) (p<0.05) during the two treatment weeks (First week: 19.67±1.57 minutes; Second week: 18.22±1.78 minutes) with respect to control week (22.5±2.71 minutes).
Conclusions:
The consumption of non-alcoholic beer leads to improvement of night rest.
