This study is on the human memory processes. The memory can keept only human mind. The question remain that are the memories different or not ? The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the long and short term memeory and IQ levels on the left and right handed subjects. For this the study was performed on volunteer males (N1=150 and females (N2= 150)students chosen randomly from different faculties of Yüzüncü Y[inodot]l University. IQ levels of the subjects were assesed by "Cattell's Culture Fair Intelligence Test:(CCFIT)". Moreover, for the level of short-term visual memory, two lists which include 15 words derivated from Turkish "to see" and "to run" root of verbs were projected on the screen and the subjects were watched the first for 30 second and we wanted the subjects to write the remembered words, in 40 second. For the past-time memory, developed question were asked. To find out Lateralization degrees, Edinburg Handedness Inventory (EHI, 10 items) and Yetkin Laterality Questionnaire (YLQ, 10 items) were used. The results were assessed with Geswind scores. In addition, long-term memory (LTM) and short-term memory (STM)questions (10 items) were asked to the subjects. Five minute was given to subjects for answers. Thus, the relationship between the LTM and STM has been assessed. When collected data from the subjects were also assessed according to the sexual differences and hand preference; no also statistically significant difference was found between values of male and females LTM, STM, verbal memories (VM), letter-row (LR), number-row (NR), shortened words (SW) and IQ points (IQP) was fopund p>0.05. However, the differeneces of the parameters between right and left handed subjects were found significant for long and short term memory and IQ levels (p<0.05).

Key words: asymmetry, IQ, short-and long-term memory, recent-past memory, far-past memory.

This study was supported as the propjects numbered 2209-SBE-YL084 by the Counsil of Scientific Research of Yüzüncü Y[inodot]l University, Van Turkey.
