Declaration of Bolonia induced an important change in the style of teaching of Spanish Universities, leading to focus on student learning. Thus, new pedagogical methods are now used, and this fact requires in consequence the necessity of a supplementary training, even for teachers with a long professional experience.

The University of the Basque Country is making efforts in order to improve pedagogical quality of teachers, and several training programs have been developed. More precisely, the FOPU program (program for the pedagogical improvement of university teachers), the AICRE program (assessment for the application of the European Credit Transfer System), the SICRE program (analysis of the results of practical application of the European Credit Transfer System) and the EPD (elaboration of teaching planning) and EPC programs (evaluation of student competency), have been carried out by the Service of Educational Assessment (Direction of Pedagogical Innovation).

Physiology in the degree of Pharmacy (Faculty of Pharmacy, Vitoria, Spain) has been included in these programs and consequently, several teachers of Physiology Department have participated in these activities, leading to methodological changes in the classroom. Thus, the focus on student learning has induced a new design of Physiology program. This implies a more active role for students, and their direct personal involvement in cooperative activities such as searching for bibliographic information, discussion in groups, and public exposition of several lessons to other students, leading to a real training in physiology that intends to catch the students inside a "net of coherence", which is to say to design a situation in which the student should recognize the necessity of asking questions and find solutions to the problems that will be found in the real professional life.
